Gawd this is my most favorite app. LOVE it.
I've downloaded GPush from App Store and Gmail Growl is much better than Gpush. I think Gmail Growl is the most useful application I've ever used, and I really recomend. The only concern I have is related to privacy as GPush state a SSL connection and I coundn't see this at Gmail Growl. Is there any SSL available to ensure better security and privacy? Thanks, Hilton
Gmail Growl always uses SSL, both for http and imap.
Hi there, I keep getting a "No Gmail Push" result in the bottom right corner of the program windows when running Gmail Growl (Google Apps email account rather than pure Gmail). Does this function only work with pure Gmail? Thanks for your help.
I keep getting the same error after about 30 minutes. I am using a regular gmail account...
@Anonymous #1: The message "No Gmail Push" means that Gmail Growl cannot establish a secure IMAP connection to Gmail. Typically, this is caused by a (company) firewall. In this case, Gmail Growl will check your Gmail apps account using the update interval (default 10 minutes).
@Anonymous #2: It would be nice to know which error message you get.
@Markus Mohnen: Anonymous #1 here, thanks for your reply. Running in a non-corporate environment so just tried again. Turns out the Push works fine when set to Inbox, but the No Gmail Push error occurs if All Mails or Starred are selected. Was able to reproduce the behaviour consistently after repeated reinstallations.
Additionally, the All Mails is reporting about 20 unread messages (the only unread messages are tagged Spam and there are 71 of them in the account). I got the same '20 unread' when there were 70 spam messages previously. Spam is probably the one folder where I'd want to skip checking for new messages (unlike others that are filtered on incoming via my own server-side rules).
Would it be theoretically possible for Gmail prowl to selectively check for new messages with multiple tags, or alterntively to exclude the Spam tag (although there could be overlap if a message is given multiple tags). Aside from that, the 20/71 discrepancy is curious. If you have any comments about the lack of push for non-Inbox tag selections (is this related to IMAP-IDLE's implementation?) I'd be very appreciative. Thanks again for any comments you may have.
@Markus: Sorry about that, there is no actual error message. It just goes from saying Gmail Push on the bottom to saying No Gmail Push (normally 30-60 minutes later).
If I check then uncheck 'disable push check' it reestablishes push for the next 30-60 minutes.
I'm having issue with Gmail Push, too. I'm wondering what the app does to validate the IMAP connection and if it will continually check for IMAP. It would be great if the app could check on an interval to see if IMAP has been restored.
More importantly, I'd like to help figure out why it's going to "No Gmail Push" periodically. I'm not in a corporate environment, either.
Even though the indicator says there are 4 messages when I update is says there are no unread messages with the label 'inbox'. I am also not getting a pop up when the messages come in.
@Anonymous #1: I will have a look at the non-Inbox tag selections.
@Anonymous #2, Todd: Gmail Growl establishes a secure IMAP connection to Gmail. This connection is disconnected and re-established every 20 minutes, this is required by Gmail. During this, the message "No Gmail Push" is shown in the settings dialog. It should go back to Gmail Push on its own. If it does not, please grab the log Gmail Growl writes to the folder "%APPDATA%\Gmail Growl" while it is running and send it to cases@gmailgrowl.fogbugz.com.
@Daarkstar: The indicator shows the total of unread mails. The pop up is only shown once for each new unread mail. If the pop up do not show at all, please check the settings for Gmail Growls notifications in Growl for Windows.
@Markus: I just emailed a log file to you. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your time.
I'm having the same issue with the "starred" folder. I am not receiving Starred message notifications, and the 'no email push' notification resides in the corner all the time.
