Gmail Growl V2.2

This version adds support for the new Gmail Priority Inbox feature. By selection the label "Important" only the new and important mails found in the priority inbox are shown by Gmail Growl.

Another new label "Unread" monitors all labels except spam and trash, while the old label "All" continues to include everything.

The recent introduction of Gmail's Multiple Account Sign-In feature broke the functionality that clicking on a notification opens the message, this is corrected now.

Finally, this version includes a streamlined preferences page and performance improvements.

All comments, suggestions, feedback, or bug reports are always welcome.

Would love to see different update intervals for separate accounts. Also having the taskbar notification perhaps load the inbox with one click instead of two and for it to automatically close when clicked keeping the traybar icon open.

For some reason, push won't work. It just keeps saying "No Gmail Push" in the bottom right corner.

@jbacon: Is there a firewall or proxy in your environment? If yes, it might be that the IMAP port is blocked which Gmail Growl needs for Gmail Push.

jbacon said...

Nope. It used to work just fine before, and Thunderbird's IMAP IDLE works correctly. Which port is it using?

Markus Mohnen said...

It uses port 993.

Weird. Just tested with Thunderbird, which is also using 993, and that works. I turned off "Check for new messages every ... minutes" so the only way it can get new messages is either manually or via IMAP IDLE. A new message came in immediately.

With Gmail Growl, the best I can do is have it check every couple of minutes.

Hey Markus,

I'm having some weird problems with your app. I'm using it with the Win7 taskbar badge and it doesnt seem to update properly some of the time. Sometimes it will retain the old number of unread mail even after I've read them or other times it will say there is no new mail when there is. Has anyone else experienced these problems?

@Will: There are two other reports on this. I'm working on this.

Hi Markus,
I'm getting the "Gmail Rejects Credentials" message a few times a day with the new version. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm having a problem similar to what jbacon described. It just started a few days ago, I no longer have gmail push. Nothing has changed in terms of how I connect to the net (firewalls, routers, etc)

Loving this! Other apps only display the ammount of new mails. This is exactly what I need.

But can you add an option to hide the URL from the notification? And maybe even the tekst. I use the top bar notifications, and when a large mail comes in, I get a huge notification on my screen. It would be awesome if iy would just tell me about the mail, and briefly show the subject and sender. As an option, ofcourse.

I'm having the same issue as BFA - multiple times a day... it pops up the "Gmail Rejects Credentials" message, but then a few minutes later, everything appears fine. Just repeats at least once an hour it seems. No anti-virus software; pretty standard apps running like MS Office, iTunes, FF, etc. Win7 x64

I'm having the first message "Cannot Connect to Gmail". Then I restarted GmailGrow(Ver. 2.2.0.0). Next,I'm having the second message "Gmail rejexts credentials #1!".
Any ideas? Thanks all.

Hi,

Couple of feature requests:

1. Option to show "new" emails count in tray instead of "unread" count. ("New" => notifications that will be shown when "Show Me Again" is selected)
=OR=
Blinking tray icon when "Show Me Again" menu item is enabled.

2. Option to choose notification content
e.g. Tick boxes for
[x] Subject
[x] From/Sender
[x] Message text
[x] URL
[x] Application name (Gmail Growl)

And thanks for whatever is already available!

Hi Marcus,
I'm also having the intermittent malfunctioning IMAP issue (as stated multiple times above) [and my Outlook 2010 IMAP is working perfectly to the identical Gmail account on the same computer].

This is quite frustrating because it is truly a unique feature of GmailGrowl, and this app has such GREAT potential - PLEASE fix this!

I also support the above feature request(s) from "ashish" and would also add one additional request: (under the Accounts Tab in preferences) To allow for multiple 'custom' label selections under a single gmail account (without having to setup multiple instances of the same gmail account in GmailGrowl).

BTW - I'm a donor and I'd be happy to donate significantly more when the IMAP issue is repaired!

Cheers!

Just clarifying that my IMAP issue is that the push feature keeps getting disabled. My system OS is W7-64 bit.

Thanks!

Marcus,
Now the IMAP push feature seems to no longer work at all on my system. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you in testing/resolving this issue! Cheers, -JT
